Tulum is a paradise of ingredient-driven, wood-fired cooking heavily influenced by the location and environment. Next to its beautiful beaches, Tulum is known for its delicious and varietle cuisine and hand crafted cocktails. There are so many great places to try depending on your mood!
Hartwood is one of the more, if not most, well known fine dining restaurants in Tulum. All cooking is done by open fire within their hand made wood burning oven and grill. The menu changes daily based on what is locally available and fresh. Every night, Hartwood displays a chalkboard that lists the evening’s dishes, most of which involve locally-caught seafood, either simply grilled or prepared as ceviche, plus beef and local vegetables. They are open for dinner only Wednesday-Sunday from 6:00-11:00 PM. Reservations are strongly recommended as they are usually booked. You can request a reservation at firstname.lastname@example.org but your reservation is only confirmed if you receive a response. They take reservations a month out from the requested reservation date so start planning soon!
El Tábano’s cuisine presents a contemporary tribute to Mexican and Mediterranean traditions while incorporating Caribbean flavors and aromas. Immersed in a lushious garden in the jungle side, El Tábano is a favorite amongst many. Take note of the massive chalkboard by the kitchen which lists the day’s fare: contemporary Mexican with an exotic twist, made with seasonal and local ingredients. Dishes stay on the menu only as long as ingredients remain, meaning many plates sell out on a daily basis. Serving homemade flavor created with regional and seasonal products from local producers to add a tropical flare to the menu. El Tábano is open 9:00 AM-11:00 PM Monday-Saturday and 6:00 PM-11:00 PM on Sunday.
Should you need a break from tacos and tostadas, Mezzanine is a great choice. Skip the Mexican breakfast and opt for the fusion-ish Thai fare that’s on offer during lunch and dinner. Perched on a deck overlooking the beach, expect a gorgeous ocean view. Oh and did I mention they have two-for-one margaritas daily from 1:00-4:00 PM (I think you’ll find us here for happy hour often!)
Posada Margherita has a small, cozy, and intimate atmosphere and with its beachfront location has to be one of the most romantic locations for dinner serving some of the best Italian food. They serve a variety of homemade breads and pastas often dressed with local vegetables and seafood. The restaurant does not serve any meat or chicken.
Gitano’s lush outdoor lounge takes on a magic feel with twinkle lights and jungle setting. While they serve a variety of fresh, modern Mexican plates they are known for their cocktails. Most of their cocktails incorporate Mexico’s signature smoky spirit, mezcal. This is a great place to stop and have an after dinner drink (or two). They are open from 6:00 PM-12:00 AM
